102 Things to do in Kauai

Ok, on my first trip to Kauai in 2001 with my Dad, he introduced me to the free travel magazine available at the airport, the car rental agency, the hotels, the grocery stores, etc. called 101 Things to Do on Kauai for the web version of this or for the other Hawaiian Islands go to http://www.101thingstodo.com/ And his question each morning or night to me would be "How many of the 101 things have you marked off as done?" Well, this year I had to say there is an unadvertised item #102 that I can now cross off of my list as complete... driving thru a flash flood on Kauai! So it's our last day on the island before heading home to Texas and all week there's been waves of rain here and there across the island... i'd say mostly on the North and East sides like Princeville and Lihue; but a few scattered showers on the west end, including Kekaha... and I had been watching the weather reports and had seen the Island Weather Service warnings of Flash Floods on Kauai... so I...

Dad & Siblings

This is a picture of my Dad and his siblings; from left to right, youngest to oldest it's my Uncle Sam, Uncle Hobie, Auntie Julie, My Dad, and Auntie Carlena. This is one of the rare times that all 5 of the Siblings are together. For many years my Auntie Julie was based in New York and of course Dad is based here in Dallas; so often either Auntie Julie or Dad or both would be missing from the picture.

My Daddy-O!

This is a picture of my Dad at Poipu Beach; we sat thru waves of rain followed by waves of great sun.

My Life on Kauai

A typical day of my life on Kauai... Wake up around 5:30 or 6.. go potty, brush teeth, watch the morning news for the weather reports while munching on a Jenny Craig breakfast bar; go back to sleep until about 7. Get up around 7, make the bed; change into my swim wear.. a 2-piece set that's like a pair of shorts and a tank top, so it's great for running around town and then transition right to the beach. Go check and see if my elderly travelmates are up and about and spend time chatting with them and my Grandma while they are getting thru their breakfast and morning routine. Find out the plans for the day i.e. which thrift stores and beach we are hitting.. and then I go load up the car with the beach gear .. towels, beach mats, sunblock (LOTS & LOTS of sunblock), changes of clothes, beach shoes, and most importantly the cooler... Then it's off around about the island for the day... starting off with a stop at Ishihara's market in Waimea to pick up ice, beverages, an...
