FFI #197

http://fridayfillins.blogspot.com/2010/10/197.html 1. While the cat's away my home is a very sad and quiet one indeed... good thing there ’ s nearly always a kitty in residence. 2. Muy fabuloso! 3. Children come in all forms and sizes … mine is a spoiled kitty and is she is only 9 ½ pounds . 4. Mocha comes running to the door, when possible, when I get home from work or shopping or what have you. 5. This may seem odd, but I prefer my cereal dry from the box with milk in a cup. 6. Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate; and that seems like a fine idea to me! 7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to stamping , tomorrow my plans include sleeping late and Sunday, I want to see the US Navy ’ s Blue Angels !

Recovery is a lifetime journey

Listen to the advice of your treatment team and continue to follow their recommendations. ·        Fill your life with positive activities. Different Choices

I ’ ve been concentrating on mindful eating and on a mix of JC and non-JC entrees including stepping out of the box in my normal choices at restaurants .  Last week at BJ ’ s, I had the Asian Chicken lettuce wraps.  Last night at Romano ’ s I had pasta fagioli soup (and I must say I prefer Olive Garden ’ s version); grilled chicken Caesar salad ; and topped off with le mon pound cake for dessert. This morning, I got up late and packed JC lunch and dinner quickly and nearly skipped breakfast … but at the last moment zapped a JC muffin and poured a cup of milk and then out the door I was headed … or so I thought … .    Somehow, I m anaged to catch one of my bags in the kitchen doorway, spilled en ough milk down my sweater and onto the floor … which I figured that was God just telling me to slow it down and take 10 minutes to just sit and eat my muffin … so changed my sweater, cleaned up the floor, poured more milk and did just that.   ...

LiveSTRONG Austin 2010

The trip to the LiveSTRONG Challenge 2010 was a whirlwind this year since I left my BFF/Cycling partner at home as she recovers from surgery... and I had to be back in the office on Monday for an important project meeting.   So I left home in the wee hours of the morning i.e. before sunrise as seems normal for these cycling events... and got to Austin around 9:30AM.  Intermittent rain all along the way.  Picked up my packet and had time to kill before 3PM check-in at the hotel.  I used the time to go exploring various knit shops around Austin.   Stayed for the one night in an Extended Stay America at a great rate; though the beds were not as comfy as the Hilton line, it served its purpose.. and was only 20 miles from the start and right on the road leading to Dripping Springs. Up early the next morning before the sun (as usual).. picked up the traditional Event Day breakfast and got to the parking zone in plenty of time to get my stuff together and g...

The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music is one of my favorite musicals... perhaps because it was forced upon us as kids to start by my Mom... which then it's amazing that I love The Wizard of Oz so much because Mom would never let us watch that one... Last night Mama C and I went to see the SingAlong version on the Big Screen at a local movie theatre.   For its 45th anniversary edition being released on November 2nd, they are doing a media blitz including special screenings of a SingAlong edition.  They did a beautiful job digitally re-mastering both the visuals and the soundtrack.    The onscreen elements were so crisp that you could see individual water droplets when she splashes in the fountain when leaving the Abbey to sing 'I have confidence'... and even the little fuzzies on her ugly tweed coat.    They did a fantastic job of putting the words on the screen in time with the songs as well.. and I think all in the theatre had a grand time.

Survivor Twists

Gotta love Survivor … after 20 Seasons, they still find interesting ways to shake things up.  This year it was a tribes by Age which was replaced last week by the ‘ Drop your buffs ’ it ’ s a whole new game with a tribal shake-up that mixed the young and old tribes.   This week when they arrived at the Challenge, it turned into a 2 individual immunity idols up for grabs – one for each tribe and 1 tribal reward/a Feast of chicken and beef kabobs and BOTH teams going to Tribal Counci l.   The winning tribe would go to tribal first and oust their person.  Holly had immunity for that tribe and the numbers were with the youngsters on the tribe, so it was either Yve or Dan to go.   Dan should have been the one to go since he is obviously the physically weaker link … . But hey, it ’ s Survivor … and if the ones that are physically weaker, overweight, older or whatever and can make it past the f...

OMW: Ruler

OMW: Ruler   Ok, didn't even need a whole minute to think of this one... while many in my life would be qualified for the position, I'd pick Mama C to be my Top Advisor if I were Supreme Ruler of the World.  She's quite knowledgeable about many things; what she doesn't know about she researches; and she's a grand delegator.  She's also the best debater of anyone I know and can argue a point from many sides and assist in finding creative solutions.

Treatie!

What a nice surprise... my hubby left me a treatie for no reason, just an I love you and thought you might like this book. Zoe Mellor is one of my fave designers of baby/kid knitwear and I've made a few of her items.   But most of the 'babies' have outgrown the baby-wear and are growing tooooooo fast for kid-wear unless I knit in a few sizes up. Still, I've picked up and put down this book at the local yarn storn a few times; but hubby found it at a Half-Price Books and thought I'd like it ~ he said he wasn't sure since he didn't know much about knitting other than I like it. So yes, such a special treat today.

Bill Cosby Quotes

I was in need of a little Inspiration today …   ·        You know the only people who are always sure about the proper way to raise children? Those who've never had any. ·        Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it. ·        Let us now set forth one of the fundamental truths about marriage: the wife is in charge. ·        Parents are not interested in justice, they're interested in peace and quiet. ·        People can be more forgiving than you can imagine. But you have to forgive yourself. Let go of what's bitter and move on. ·        The past is a ghost, the future a dream, and all we ever have is now. ·        Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. JC On the Road

How'd I do... well, I did stop at JC and weigh yesterday on the way in from Austin.. and I did have a gain, which wasn't unexpected for the Road trip and being underhydrated on the way home (hey, some of those stretches of road have not even a bush to pee on much less a sparkling bathroom).  But for the food plan.. how did it go... Sat/Travel Day Breakfast at home - JC Breakfast Scramble, fruit, milk ~ Yes AM Snack- JC Anytime Bar & fruit ~ No Lunch- JC Chicken Salad kit, tossed salad, fruit ~ No/Opted for Chili's chips sans salsa and chicken fajitas and an orange PM Snack - 1/2 peanut butter sandwich, fruit ~ No Dinner- Out/TBD - Light pasta meal ~ Well maybe not light; but was Olive Garden chicken fettucine alfredo sans parsley; bread sticks; pasta fagouli soup; and 2 bites of BFF's lemon cake and 4 andes mints. My Race, My Way

Mama C asked last night if I would do the sprint Triathlon again... 1/2 mile swim; 12 mile bike; 5K run/walk... and I'm thinking Yes, I think so. At the beginning, looking at the Lake with the gorgeous sunrise, I did have the Insanity Monkey on my back and there was a bit of anxiety and double-checking of myself as to whether I should do this thing or not... There were times I wanted to cheat (like come in after only 1 loop on the bike; or turn back early on the run portion).. and times I wanted to quit... like out on the bike... and returning from the bike to face the 5K on foot.. but I kept on going. Lessons learned included to bring a bigger towel to exit the swim portion of the event such as to have a better, cleaner, and more dry spot to stand on and perhaps get the feet a bit dryer before shoving them into socks.. perhaps dry the body a bit better so that the water didn't just follow gravity and drip into my socks making them extremely soggy for the ride and the...

Grandma Whisperer Strikes Again

Some people have a knack with kids; some people have a knack with animals; some people have a knack with elderly people … my BFF is one of those that is a magnet for little old ladies I think...  t his time in the restroom at The Collin Street Bakery in Wa co.    We had stopped there for lunch on the way home from the Trek Tri and both made a beeline for the Ladies Room … passing a middle-aged man escort ing an elderly woman to the restroom door.   By the time BFF made it out of her stall and on her way to wash-up, the elderly lady had finally made it into the bathroom and not sure how, but BFF ended up stuck in a conversation with her.. and I just hid out in my stall stifling my laughter until it was all over.    I heard BFF finally make her exit and the little old lady was still muttering in conversation with her even though she w as long gone.   I then quietly made my exit from the stall; quickly and q...
